What's New?

Not a lot. But a lot. Makes sense, no?

It's Primetime week. So, I'm catching up on my shows. I'm so happy! And, it's Oilers preseason, so you know what Garth & the boys have been doing. Sunday is what I'm looking forward to the most, & Desperate Housewives (please don't call our house Sunday, lol).

Garth had today off (it's his Sunday today, he has Wed & Thurs off), so this morning, we dropped the boys off at school, then went for breakfast! It was so nice!! We could sit with a cup of coffee afterwards, & not have to rush out because the boys were bored. True, we had an egg bagel from Robin's, but it counts ;)

Ryden is still loving his school. He loves to bring home his crafts & play with Josh. His class needs a family picture. Guess what we haven't taken since Ry was 8 months old?? LOL. That is on our list for this weekend. Even Garth was shocked it had been that long!

Anson is doing well too! He loves showing us how he can read. And he is doing so well with it too!! We had an incident yesterday (sorry again Tara), that the schol handled atrociously, I thought. I was not impressed. However, chicken me, I haven't said anything. Anson & I talked, Tara & I chatted (thanks T!), so it's all good, but still. Oy. School politics can go suck an egg.

I was offered a FREE ticket to Reba tomorrow night, in Saskatoon. Sadly, I couldn't use it :( Garth works Saturday morning, so there is no one watch the monsters. I'm so sad! I really wanted to go! I'm sure if I had more than 10 minutes, I would have found a sitter, but nope. So, now I am not going to Reba. Boo.

I found out yesterday, that my mom is planning on retiring 3 years sooner, and to my mom's hometown (3 hours away). Yeah. That was a shocker. It's good, because now I will still have a link to Springwater again. But yeah. Wow. I didn't think she'd move back to SK (she is in Calgary). Yay, I think!

And, I think that's it. Told you. Lots, but not lots. Exciting!!

It's A Commercial...

so I'm taking a Grey's pause to post this, I got it from Tara. Thanks T.

It's a survey about your first born. That would be Anson, in our house!!

1. Were you married at the time? Heh, barely. We were married 15 days before Anson came!

2. What were your reactions when you found out you were pregnant? Surprise. Garth dropped the phone into a pot of chili when I called to tell him (did I mention he moved to Alberta right after I got pregnant? Good times!).

3. How old were you? 19.

4. How did you find out you were pregnant? I went to the doctor, with my best friend, since Garth was 8 hours away.

5. Who did you tell first? Danielle, since she came to the doctor with me. Then I called Garth, hung up on him, called him back, & he dropped his phone into chili. Made for some good laughs!

6. Did you want to find out the sex? No, but yes. We didn't.

7. Due date? April 21, 2002!

8. Did you deliver early or late? Early, he was born April 14, 2002, so exactly 7 days early!

9. Did you have morning sickness? Nope. Except for 1 fainting spell in September (in West Edmonton Mall, no less), I was totally healthy, no sickness.

10. What did you crave? Big Macs & jalapenos. But not together.

11. Who irritated you the most? Not much. Living far away from my family for the most part!

12. What was your first child's sex? Boy

13. How many pounds did you gain throughout the pregnancy? FAR too much. At my last appointment, 6 days before he was born, I was 171 pounds (I started at 105). I KNOW I gained more that last week. Sadness :(

14. Did you have any complications during your pregnancy? No. Until I went into labor.

15. Where did you give birth? Hinton General Hospital, Hinton Alberta.

16. How many hours were you in labor? Way too long! 42 hours!! YUCK!

17. Who drove you to the hospital? My husband. After we went home & I cleaned the apartment (we were at my BIL's when I realized I was in labor).

18. Who watched? My husband, his aunt, his cousin, a bunch of nurses (I was the only patient, it was a slow night, lol).

19. Was it vaginal or c-section? Section.

20. Did you take medicine to ease the pain? You bet your booty! And had I known it would take the angel doctor an hour to get there, I'd have asked for it sooner!

21. How much did your child weigh? 8 lbs 2.5 ozs

22. What did you name him/her? Anson Brock

23. How old is your first born today? 6 years, 5 months & 11 days :)

Missing Summer Time Ease

This week was the start of our normal school/winter routine. It is the first full week of school for both boys, & Garth is working his lame winter schedule (Wed & Thurs off, days Fri to Tues). As it is, I've hardly been home the past week or longer. And this week is not looking promising either.

Today, Anson had his school pictures! Such an adorable little man! However. I forgot that today is Show & Tell. Oops. So I've had to write it on my calendar so we don't forget again! That's all Anson gave me about school. Every time you ask him what he did at school that day, he'll say either "nothing", or "I don't know". Such a helpful little guy! Then he came home & played on the computer, & had 3 plates of supper. I'm in some serious trouble as the kid gets older. I wonder if they have a Hollow Leg Food Fund??

Today was Ryden's first Parent Monday. It was a sad affair today, since Tara wasn't there :( Now that her son is in kindergarten, she's moved on, so it was weird! Last year, Tara & I (and the boys of course!) went every single Monday. So it's weird to go & not have her there! I miss her!! Also, this year, because there is a new teacher, it is run a little bit differently! This year, when we get there, we get to go to the library to take out a book for the week! Ryden was so excited to pick one of his own!! And then we went to his class to do his craft (we colored & made little frogs today), and then play with the toys for a bit. He loves it, so we'll try to get there every week this year! Tomorrow, he has school, and his school pictures! Yay!

The rest of this week will be a gong show. Tomorrow the boys both have school, and I work while Ryden is at school. After that, I have a hair appointment at my friend C's house. I'm taking Ryden with me, because he is buddies with her son, so we thought it would be a good time for them to hang out!

Wednesday, both boys will be in school, and after Ryden is done at 11:30, we're going to Tara's, so Ryden can play with Owen. And I can get my Tara fix in, since she doesn't come to our Monday morning thing. Wednesday night, I have my scrapbook splurge group. I need to remember to get some pictures printed!! Eeps!!

So far, Thursday & Friday are looking pretty quiet. One of these weeks, Garth & I will have to head to the city (most likely PA) to get Anson's hockey equipement & Ryden's helmet. We have to do that before October 15. I think maybe we'll go on a Wednesday, so that Grandma can pick the boys up from school for us. It will be nice to go, just the 2 of us! And since Garth's birthday is in 2 weeks, we'll get his birthday gift (or part of it). Metallica (yipee skippy) realeased a new CD on Friday he wants, & he refuses to wait for Christmas, so now I'm down 1 stocking stuffer!!

Speaking of Christmas, yesterday I pulled out my handy dandy notebook (orgnaizedhome.com is an AMAZING site BTW, and has helped me a TON, until my printer crapped out!) & got my Christmas prep list. I also peeked at the cleaning lists & updated mine in my binder as well. I love my binder. It's so helpful!! And they have new pages to print, so I really need to get this printer issue resolved!! I love the Christmas list, each week you focus on 1 area of your house to get "holiday ready". It's awesome! I will have to play catch up, however, since I started 2 weeks late! But I'll get it done!! And I can't wait!!

So, there is my update, I guess I should head off to bed now. Night!!

I Do Not Agree..

with the fact that my darling friend Tara is making me post blogs!! :)

She tagged me on her blog, with 2 things. Not 1. TWO. Nice huh? At least we have a tea date this week to make up for it!! Hehe. But I did get a cute, I *heart* Your Blog sticker that I have no idea what to do with. Hey Doug, I know you are stalking me (oh wait, it's called following, haha!), what do I do with the sticker thinger?? HELP! And thanks for not running me over with your cart today!

So. I need to tell you 5 unusual things about myself. I think I may have issues. With this I mean (you hush!). Like random unusual? Or, weird unusual? Good grief! Okay, here goes.

1. I hate corn. Except corn on the cob. And only from gardens I know!! No grocery store corn on the cob!!! Blah!

2. I would much prefer to eat cereal for supper. And if I could do it in my house of carnivores, eat no meat. I hate most of it. And especially the yucky raw part. Sadly, my boys think they are part dinosaur thanks to their father & need blood for every meal.

3. (this is super hard) I will randomly bust out the 80's dance moves, much to Garth's dismay. Or start singing New Kids on The Block & Backstreet Boy songs.

4. I freak out when the boys (and that includes Garth) mess up the DVDs & CDs, and they aren't alphabetical anymore.

5. My husband gave me a new nickname this summer. S'more Whore. Because I gave him crap about making s'mores wrong this summer, & banned him from all future s'more preparation.

Now, I tag Jaime, Carrie, and Doug, because I think they are the only ones who read this. And sadly, that's not the required 5. Meh. You 3 still have to do it!!!

Helloooo!!!

Wow. I have a follower! What the heck is that?!?! :D

So, Ryden started school yesterday, yay! He LOVED it! He is a little sad that his teacher from last year isn't there this year (she moved back to her hometown & got married, etc etc). He does have the same TA, & she is AWESOME, so that is nice too. Sadly, my first "child free" morning was spent at work :( Boo. And even more sad? My Tuesdays will be spent at work. Oh well, such is life, no?

Anson is loving grade 1!! Today, his class, and the entire school, walked to the RecPlex for breakfast. They also got a Nutrition award of some sorts (yeah, awesome mommy Robyn really paid attention to that one!!), then bussed back to the school. He was so excited about it, and I got some great pictures, of course!!

I'm also going to start a new blog tonight. No worries! I am keeping this one!! But, my 2 little sisters are begining to "domesticate", and cook for their boyfriends, so they keep calling me for recipes!! So, it will be a recipe blog! YUM! Check it out, tomorrow maybe. We'll see how tonight goes.

Well, I think I'm going to scrap for a while. I need to clear off my desk first, since it's been used as a dumping ground of sorts lately. Until next time!!

Ho Hum

Not a lot happening. Today is raining & icky & fall like :( I miss summer. Although, the neighbor across the street putting Christmas lights up (on his unfinished house no less!) has me looking forward to Christmas!! I've started my shopping already, my SIL is done (well, I may buy her 1 more thing, we'll see), my sister Paige has been started, & the boys are about halfway. I'm quite proud of myself!

I think I will start my card list soon, and decide on the picture. I'm not sure if we'll take a new one (with Garth this year, instead of the boys!), or find one from the summer. I also need to start the Shutterfly gifts. Last year I made all of the grandparents albums of the past year, so I think it will be something I do again. Except this year, I will order one for us as well!! It's nice to see a recap of the year in 1 book. My scrapbooks are so all over the place right now!

Other than that, we are not doing a whole lot. Anson is at school today. Garth is off & is supposed to be fixing things around here (like, oh maybe, our shower?!?!) but instead, he is snuggled up in bed, because he is sick YET again. He's been on antibiotics about 2 times in the last 6 weeks or so. He feels better for a week, then he is sick again. I wish they could take his tonsils out!!

Speaking of Garth, someone in our house turns 35 in 3 weeks!! We threw him a surpise party when he turned 30, so that idea is out, but I do want to celebrate it somehow. I think that wil be my next "project". Even if we have people over for supper, & drinks, something of the like, I do want to celebrate. I also plan on putting a very funny picture of him in the paper too, I just need to get it from his mom!

And so, the latest from the Gagne's! Not very exciting, but what can you do, right? I'm sure that we'll be busy soon enough, that I'll have something more worthwhile to update everyone on!!

Happy Labor Day!

I got this from my fantastically hilarious, awesome friend (whom I really miss!), Tara. Go read her's too, it is awesome!!!

How long were your labours?
Anson?
Far, far too long. My contractions/twinges started around 10pm Friday night (and I baked until 3am, nesting much??) & my water started "leaking" around 11am Saturday morning. I delivered him Sunday evening at 5:18. WAY too long.

Ryden? I woke up in labor, at like 5am. I had to pee, and noticed some pains every few minutes, then saw the blood. I forgot about the pains then. Ryden was born at 6:48pm. So just over 12 hours of active labor.

How did you know you were in labour?
Anson? I "peed" myself. Sort of. I didn't realize my water was leaking oh so slowly, I just kind of assumed I was leaking pee every so often. I went about my day, looking at houses, enjoying what would be my final meal until Sunday night (ergh), doing laundry. We went to my BIL's later that night, and then I felt some more wetness. I ran to the bathroom, & noticed that there was slightly more "pee" & I was like, whoa! I think my water broke!! I called the hospital, asking them about it, and the oh-so-helpful nurse told me that my water would gush, not leak. It just did not work that way. So an hour later, we called my husband's mother to chat with her. Garth mentioned the whole peeing myself incident, & she told me that is what happened when she went into labor with my husband. The helpful nurse was wrong! She asked if I was having contractions, and that's when we noticed that the twinges I had felt all day were about 7 minutes apart. We went home, I cleaned the apartment, got our bags & went to the hospital at 1am Saturday morning. I was just barely 4cm. 15 and a half hours later, I was barely 6cm, more so still a 5. I rocked at the whole dialating thing!

Ryden? Um, the pains every 15 minutes were a big clue. The blood was another "something is happening" sign. I called the hospital about the blood, at 7am. They told me to go to the clinc, which opened at 9. So I waited, went to the clinic. They told me to go to the hospital. I went home crying. Yep, I had a tiny bit of a spazz moment. I went to the hospital, & they hooked me up to the non stress machine. I was there for almost 2 hours. Not a movement. The nurse practioner called the doctor, and she told me to go home & come back around 2pm. Thankfully, I had a doctor in Saskatoon, and I called him when I got home. I told his nurse that I was bleeding, having contractions & just got off the monitor that did not record a single movement. She asked how soon we could make the 2 and a half hour trip. THAT realllllly freaked me out & I got a tiny bit hysterical. We made it to the city in an hour & forty minutes & went right to the ER, where I was whooshed up to L&D. A million and 3 people came in to ask me questions, including whether or not I had smuggled in any weapons. The third time they asked me, I told them that the baby had it, & to get both out of me. I may or may not have sounded like the possessed girl on The Exorcist.

Where did you deliver?
Anson? Hinton General Hospital, Hinton Alberta

Ryden? Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon Saskatchewan

Drugs?
Anson? Yes. About 6 and a half hours after I got to the hospital, I got the epidural. Had I known it would take the doctor almost an hour to get to the hospital, I would not have waited as long. That seriously sucked. I was MORE than ready to get the epi when I first asked, never mind having to wait an hour longer!!

Ryden? Sort of? It was an emergency c-section, so I got the spinal instead of the epidural (well, I guess they are the same, but the spinal goes in deeper, nice huh?)

C-section?
Anson? Yes. After DAYS of labor, they realized he was stuck. At 7am, I was 4cm. She threatened pitocin if nothing had happened when came back. She came back at 4, I was not quite 6. She checked me, & was like, oh. I feel a hand. I think. So she called in another doctor (a really HOT doctor!!) & he checked, & confirmed something was coming out first & it wasn't a head!! So they took an x-ray, & sure enough, the little sucker was coming out forehead first (brow presentation) & it was his nose they were feeling. C-section here I came!!

Ryden? Yes. I had an ultrasound & that is when they noticed his heart was enlarged, & was slowing down. WORST FEELING EVER. To have to watch my son's heart slow down, and to actually SEE that? I felt like it was my own heart slowing down. To watch it, & know that I was hurting him, he was dying because he was inside me, was the worst thing I have ever EVER had to go through. I barely had time to digest what we were watching, and what was going on, before they started to prep me for surgery. My grandparents were with me, & that is the second time in my entire life I've seen my granpda cry (the first being when his mother passed away in 2000), and the first time my grandma cried. In the 10 minutes it took to get me to the OR, his heart slowed from 120, to 60. By the time he was out, he was blue & unresponsive. We were told later that had we been any later getting to the city, he would not be here today.

Who delivered?
Anson? Dr Cafferty, assisted by my doctor, Dr Reiss (she was freaking AMAZING, best doctor ever!!)

Ryden? I have no idea. It was supposed to Dr. Sheridan (who, upon hearing I had had my baby early, popped his head into my room, flatly stated "you just couldn't wait, could you?" & then promptly walked out, for me to never see him again), but I just got the first obstrectian they could reach. I don't even know if the doctor was male or female! Nice huh? No other doctor ever came to check on me afterwards, just the nurses. In fact, the doctor that messed up, er, gave me my spinal had to tell me it was a boy!! Garth went to see him & I heard him ask the nurse, but didn't hear her answer. I didn't see him until he was 5 hours old, on a ventilator.

And those are my labor stories!! I'm glad to have gone through it, and that I have my babies. But it's not anything I wish to repeat in the near future. Can't wait to read everyone else's!!!

Mopeity Mope Mope

Well, summer is officially over :( Today is Labor Day, the last day of summer. I'm so bummed. I love summer. The heat, the cookouts, the laid back, easy pace. Now it's back to business. School, hockey, snow & cold.

We had a fairly uneventful summer. The boys & I went to Saskatoon for a few days, went to Kinsmen Park with my brother Brett, and the Forestry Farm with Brett, my sisters Paige & Michelle, & Michelle's husband Dan, and my mom. We also went to Greenwater in June, the boys LOVED the beach!

Swimming lessons were in July, the boys learn SO much more when they are in the 1 week set of lessons, than in the 2 week sets. We'll be doing 1 weekers from now on. We didn't get the boys in their second set we promised, since Ryden got tubes in his ears July 31. Next year, they will each take 2 sets. Anson will take both Level 1 & 2, and Ryden will do both Crocodile & Whale (I think), since he'll be too young to take Level 1.

Anson started school last week. Grade 1. It makes me so sad that my baby will be gone all day, everyday. I think he likes it. I ask him what he did, he says nothing. I ask if he likes his teacher (Mrs. Sisson), he says yeah. It's like getting blood from a stone! The child won't tell me anything! He is, however, excited that hockey starts October 15. Me? Not so much.

Ryden met his new teacher on Thursday, Mrs. Tiganov. Mrs. Armstrong will be the TA again, Ry loves her! He starts going to school September 9. We also signed him up for hockey this year! We're going to try it for a month, just to see how he does. If he doesn't do well, or decides he hates it, we'll try again next year. But I do want him to try. I've been taking them skating at the rink to get him started & to work on his skating, so I hope that has helped!

That's about it. Today (and this past weekend) has been very lazy. We've just hung around at home, not doing a whole lot. It helps that it's being gross outside as well. I have done away with my 52 blessings blog, & have replaced it with my new "thing". I'm doing a challenge, 101 in 1001. Today is my start date. The object is to come up with a list of 101 things you want to accomplish in 1001 days. Check out that blog for all the info! Until next time everyone! I have some biscuits to make for supper!!
